AKRON, Ohio -- Brian Walsh led five players in double figures with 18 points as Akron routed Division III John Carroll 97-53 Monday night in a nonconference matchup.
Akron (2-1) opened the game on a 9-3 run but a layup by Kyle Pisco helped John Carroll cut the deficit to 9-5. The Lobos, however, would get no closer, as Akron pushed its lead to 22 points -- following a 20-2 run -- and led 49-27 at halftime.
Walsh and Ibitayo scored six points apiece during the run.
Akron shot 59 percent (20 of 34) from the field, made six 3-pointers and pulled down 22 rebounds in the first half. The Zips extended their lead to as much as 48 points, 95-47, in the second half.
There's nothing to suggest the Jayhawks won't end up atop the Big 12 for a 13th season in a row. But what about a return to the Final Four?
Colorado State graduate transfer John Gillon has chosen Syracuse, giving the Orange a potential starter at point guard entering the 2016-17 season.
DeSean Murray, who averaged 20.2 points as a sophomore at Presbyterian, will transfer to Auburn to play for coach Bruce Pearl.
