SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- Five South Carolina Upstate players scored in double figures as the Spartans rolled to a 90-36 victory over Hiwassee Monday night in a nonconference showdown.
South Carolina Upstate (1-1) jumped to an 18-0 lead, sparked by back-to-back 3-pointers by Torrey Craig. Adrian Rodgers capped the run with another 3 before Hiwassee finally scored with 13:37 left in the first half on Jeff Golden's layup.
Craig netted 14 of his points in the first half, when he was 5-of-7 shooting and 3 of 4 from beyond the arc.
The Spartans shot 55.7 percent from the field (34 of 61), going over 50 percent for the second straight game.
Rico Stanly led Hiwassee (1-5) with eight points.
