BOONE, N.C. -- John Brown scored 22 points to lead four High Point players in double figures as the hot-shooting Panthers cruised to an 86-64 win over Appalachian State on Tuesday night.
High Point (2-0) shot 64.5 percent in the first half (20 of 31) compared to 33.3 percent (9 of 27) for the Mountaineers (1-1).
The game was touted as a rematch of their ESPN BracketBuster game from two seasons ago, which Appalachian State won 82-81. But High Point never trailed, breaking open a 16-11 game with a 32-15 run to close out the half. The Panthers led by as many as 30 after the break while shooting 50 percent (15 of 30).
Purdue coach Matt Painter says players haven't used the fifth-year graduate transfer rule for its true intent.
The 2017 recruiting class is short on point guards, with Trevon Duval leading only eight prospects from the ESPN 60 who are still available.
The dust has settled after players made their NBA draft decisions. Which college teams won? Which lost? Well, Villanova is pretty happy. USC, meanwhile, might not be as thrilled.
