BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. -- Malcolm Smith scored 22 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to propel Lipscomb past Gardner-Webb 66-62 on Wednesday night.
The Bisons shot 49 percent (25 for 51) from the field and outrebounded the Bulldogs 41-28, which helped offset their 22 turnovers. Lipscomb also shot only 55 percent (11 of 20) from the free throw line. Gardner-Webb shot 36 percent (22 of 61) from the field.
Gardner-Webb was playing without center Mike Byron, who likely will miss three to four weeks after being injured in the first half of a victory against Covenant College on Saturday night. He was averaging 7.0 points, 2.0 rebounds and 2.0 blocks per game.
