OXFORD, Miss. -- Reserve guard Derrick Millinghaus scored 19 points and added five assists as Mississippi placed five scorers in double figures Friday night to defeat Arkansas-Little Rock 92-52.
Marshall Henderson, who made 5 of 10 from 3-point range, added 17 points for the Rebels (3-0). Nick Williams scored 12 points, Murphy Holloway had 11 and Reginald Buckner added 10 and a team-high 11 rebounds in the balanced attack.John Gillon scored 14 points for Arkansas-Little Rock (1-2), which shot just 29.7 percent from the field (19 of 64). The Trojans led 10-3 in the opening four minutes but trailed by as many as 42 points, 81-39, in the second half.Ole Miss shot 52.4 percent (33 of 63) from the field and forced 20 turnovers. The Rebels held a decisive 47-34 edge in rebounds and blocked 10 shots, including five by Aaron Jones."It's great to see Derrick have that kind of performance; he needed it," Mississippi coach Andy Kennedy said. "Marshall has been very good in three games. Arkansas-Little Rock is young at the guard position and our guys were able to take advantage of that."Millinghaus, who was 1 of 13 from the field in the Rebels' first two wins, was 5 of 11 against the Trojans and added four rebounds and three steals in his most extensive playing time, 23 minutes, this season."I have to take advantage of these games to show what I can do," Millinghaus said. "I think I played all right, but I think I'm capable of playing even better."The Rebels pulled away after the opening four minutes, primarily on the strength of a 27-9 run. Henderson hit a pair of 3-point shots while Buckner added three blocks and five rebounds to highlight the decisive series."We got control of the game there. We can be a real good basketball team," Buckner said. "We're getting help from a lot of different players and we want to keep getting better."Ole Miss opened the second half on a 19-2 run, with Holloway and Henderson accounting for 14 points, to build an insurmountable 66-35 lead with 14:18 left. Arkansas-Little Rock never got closer than 35 points in the final 12 minutes."We've taken care of business so far in games where we've been at home and had a physical edge," Kennedy said. "We've got things to work on and we're not a finished product, but I'm encouraged by what I'm seeing."The Rebels improved to 54-2 in nonconference home games in Kennedy's seven-year tenure and is 3-0 all-time against Arkansas-Little Rock.Copyright by STATS LLC and The Associated Press
