UNCASVILLE, Conn. -- Estan Tyler scored 15 points and Thomas Staton 14 as Missouri-Kansas City defeated Norfolk State 63-57 Sunday in a consolation game at the Hall of Fame Tipoff.
Tyler sank 5 of 6 free throws in the final 47 seconds to help the Kangaroos (2-2) of the Summit League hold off the Spartans (2-3) of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference.Norfolk State used a 12-0 run, capped by a dunk by Rashid Gaston, to take a 46-44 lead with 7:45 to play.UMKC regained a five-point margin, 55-50 with 4:16 left, after a pair of 3-pointers by Kirk Korver and a 3-pointer and a jumper by Staton. The Kangaroos made 5 of 9 tries from 3-point range in the second half.Trinity Hall finished with 11 points and Korver 10 for UMKC.Brandon Goode led Norfolk State with 12 points and Rob Johnson 11 for Norfolk State.
