BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. -- Donta Harper scored 27 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead Gardner-Webb past The Citadel 71-58 Saturday night in nonconference action.
Max Landis added 16 points for Gardner-Webb (7-5).
Trailing 26-23 at halftime, Gardner-Webb opened the second half on a 22-8 run, taking a 45-34 lead with 12:47 left to play. Harper scored nine points and Landis made two 3-pointers during the stretch to help the Runnin' Bulldogs take a double-digit lead.
The Citadel (3-5) cut the lead to five, 59-54, with 5 minutes left to play, but Harper and Landis responded, scoring 11 of the teams' final 12 points. Gardner-Webb outscored the Bulldogs 12-4 the rest of the way to seal the victory.
