BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Isaac Sosa scored 24 points, shooting 8-for-12 from 3-point range, as Canisius defeated Longwood 82-54 in a nonconference game Monday night.
The senior guard bettered his previous high of 15 points with the Golden Griffins (7-2), set in an 85-61 loss Saturday to Syracuse. He fell two points short of his collegiate high of 26, set three years ago when he played for Central Florida.
Sosa's first four 3-pointers came in the opening 4:06 as the Golden Griffins built a 16-6 lead. The Lancers (3-8) twice got within two points later in the half but trailed 39-28 at intermission. Canisius closed the game with a 19-6 run.
Alshwan Hymes scored 18 points for Canisius, including 4 of 8 3-pointers. Canisius finished 13-for-28 behind the arc (46.4 percent) and has made 51 from 3-point range in its last four games.
Jeylani Dublin led Longwood with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Shooting guard Jaylen Nowell, ranked No. 45 in the ESPN 100, chose the Washington Huskies on Wednesday over California. As a junior he led Garfield Heights to a state championship and was named MVP of the tournament.
