HAMPTON, Va. -- Emmanual Okoroba posted career highs of 18 points and 11 rebounds and Jasper Williams came off the bench for a career-best 22 points as Hampton defeated American University 72-65 Tuesday night.
Deron Powers, the Pirates' leading scorer this season, tallied 17 points and a career-high 10 assists. Okoroba, who entered the game averaging 2.3 points and 2.3 rebounds, made 7 of 12 shots from the field while Williams hit 7 of 10 attempts -- five makes came from 3-point range.
Hampton (2-7) trailed 23-17 with 5:46 left in the first half but rallied to 26-all at intermission. The Pirates opened the second half on a 16-10 run to take a 42-36 lead and pull away.
American (4-7) shot 43.5 percent (10 of 23) in the first half but regressed to 38.2 percent (13 of 34) after the break.
Stephen Lumpkins led the Eagles with 12 points and 15 rebounds.
