RIVERSIDE, Calif. -- Kyle Odister scored 14 points and hit four 3-pointers for Cal Poly, which opened Big West play with a 58-48 victory over UC Riverside on Saturday afternoon.
Cal Poly (5-6, 1-0 Big West) shot only 34.6 percent from the field and trailed 29-23 at halftime to UC Riverside, which dominated the paint, outscoring the Mustangs 30-8 inside. Cal Poly was able to erase an 11-point deficit in the second half to prevail.
Reese Morgan scored nine points and grabbed eight rebounds for the Cal Poly, which out-rebounded the Highlanders 38-30, forced 12 turnovers and were 15 of 22 from the free-throw line, 13 of which were made in the second half.
There's nowhere to go but up for the Eagles, who were winless in the ACC last season but return a slew of young players who gained valuable experience.
