MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Morehead State had three players score in double figures and the Eagles used their rebounding advantage to beat Eastern Illinois 65-50 Saturday night in Ohio Valley Conference play.
Morehead State (8-8, 2-0), which led 26-17 at halftime, got 11 points apiece from starters Drew Kelly and Angelo Warner, and also from Maurice Lewis-Briggs off the bench.Eastern Illinois, which remained winless in conference play (3-13, 0-3), also had three players finish in double figures. Sherman Blanford led the Panthers with 14 points on 6-of-13 shooting from the floor. Josh Piper pitched in 13 points and Taylor Jones added 11 more.But Eastern Illinois couldn't overcome Morehead State's superior rebounding, foul shooting and depth.The Panthers were 7 for 11 at the line, the Eagles 14 for 23.Morehead State had a 36-21 rebounding edge, including 15 offensive boards. Also, the Eagles' bench outscored Eastern Illinois' 20-2.
