NEW YORK -- Kenneth Ortiz scored 22 points and Wagner ran away early from Fairleigh Dickinson for a 68-55 victory Saturday in Northeast Conference play.
The Seahawks (8-5, 2-0) got a double-double from Mario Moody, who scored the game's first six points on two foul shots and two dunks. Wagner led 31-19 at halftime and coasted home.
Ortiz's 22 points came on 8-of-11 shooting. He made both of his 3-point attempts and 4 of 6 foul shots. Moody grabbed 12 rebounds for a double-double and blocked three shots.
Wagner outrebounded Fairleigh Dickinson 45-32, outscoring the Knights 34-22 in the paint. The Seahawks, who had a 12-0 edge on fast-break points, shot 46 percent (23 of 50) from the floor, the Knights 29.3 percent (17 of 58).
Shooting guard Jaylen Nowell, ranked No. 45 in the ESPN 100, chose the Washington Huskies on Wednesday over California. As a junior he led Garfield Heights to a state championship and was named MVP of the tournament.
