HAMILTON, N.Y. -- Stephen Lumpkins scored 22 points and Tony Wroblicky had his first double-double of the season as American University topped Colgate 72-63 Saturday in each team's Patriot League opener.
Lumpkins hit 8 of 12 from the field and grabbed nine rebounds, and Wroblicky had 17 points and 13 rebounds. Blake Jolivette added 16 points for the Eagles (6-10).
American jumped to an 8-2 lead on Lumpkins jumper with 17:26 left in the first half, and Colgate never pulled closer than three points after that. The Raiders trailed 59-56 with 4:28 left, but Daniel Munoz hit two free throws and a jumper to spark an 8-2 run and American cruised to the finish from there.
The Raiders committed just five turnovers but shot 37.5 percent (24 of 64).
Maryland point guard Melo Trimble, considered a lock to leave the program before struggling in the second half last season, has withdrawn from the NBA draft and will return for his junior season.
Louisville's Chinanu Onuaku, who recently underwent a medical procedure to correct a heart rhythm issue detected during the combine, will keep his name in the NBA draft pool.
Andrew White III will return to the Nebraska men's basketball team next season after removing his name from the NBA draft.
