CHARLESTON, S.C. -- Clide Geffrard Jr. scored 22 points on 7-on-11 shooting from the field, and Samford defeated The Citadel 69-65 in a Southern Conference game on Saturday night.
Raijon Kelly and Tim Williams had 15 points apiece for Samford (5-12, 3-1), which claimed its first road victory against The Citadel and swept the season series. Samford also snapped a five-game losing streak against The Citadel dating to 2009.
The Citadel has lost 10 games in a row.
The Citadel led for only 1 minute, 16 seconds, that coming in the first half. It closed to 63-62 on Ashton Moore's 3-pointer with 2:48 remaining, but Samford made six free throws down the stretch to seal the victory.
The Big 12/SEC Challenge will again feature Kansas and Kentucky, this time at Rupp Arena. That's not the only exciting matchup in next season's midseason conference showdown.
