JACKSONVILLE, Ala. -- Corey Walden scored a career-high 28 points as sharp-shooting Eastern Kentucky made a 14-point halftime advantage hold, beating Jacksonville State 73-62 Saturday in Ohio Valley Conference action.
Walden, a sophomore transfer from Stetson, was averaging 10.4 points per game before Saturday, when he hit 8 of 11 from the floor, 2 of 2 from 3-point range and 10 of 10 from the foul line. Walden is making 89.1 percent of his foul shots this season, and the Colonels hit 21 of 25 free throws Saturday.
Mike DiNunno tied his season high by scoring 24 points for the second straight game for Eastern Kentucky (15-4, 5-1), which led 36-22 at halftime. The Colonels are outscoring OVC opponents by a 9.3 average in the first half this year.
Maryland point guard Melo Trimble, considered a lock to leave the program before struggling in the second half last season, has withdrawn from the NBA draft and will return for his junior season.
Louisville's Chinanu Onuaku, who recently underwent a medical procedure to correct a heart rhythm issue detected during the combine, will keep his name in the NBA draft pool.
Andrew White III will return to the Nebraska men's basketball team next season after removing his name from the NBA draft.
