BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- Dylon Cormier scored 21 points and Erik Etherly added 16 as both players crossed the 1,000-point threshold at Loyola (MD) in the Greyhounds' 65-60 win over Fairfield on Monday night in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play.
Cormier and Etherly combined to make 17 of Loyola's 24 free throws. Loyola (14-6, 6-2) fell one free throw short of its season-high 25, which was set in the Greyhounds' Jan 11. win against Fairfield.
Fairfield trailed 33-32 at intermission but missed nine of their first 11 shots and committed five turnovers over the first 10 minutes of the second half as Loyola built a 50-40 advantage.
The Stags cut the deficit to 61-58 with 1:14 left but didn't score again until the 3-second mark.
Former Kentucky guard Ed Davender, the only Wildcat with at least 1,500 points and 400 assists, has died. He was 49.
Guard Naz Mitrou-Long, whose 2015-16 season ended in December due to hip problems, has been granted a hardship waiver for the coming season, Iowa State said.
As the Sooners look to life without superstar Buddy Hield and his sidekicks, it's clear their unseasoned players will need to grow up fast.
