ASHEVILLE, N.C. -- Jeremy Atkinson scored 16 points with nine rebounds as UNC Asheville held off Coastal Carolina 63-60 Wednesday night in Big South Conference action.
After 10 ties and nine lead changes, the Bulldogs (10-10, 4-2) led 63-56 on Keith Hornsby's jumper with 3:54 left. Anthony Raffa answered with a 3-pointer and Warren Gillis hit a free throw with 2:09 to go to get the Chanticleers within 63-60.
Neither team could score the rest of the way. Coastal Carolina missed three field goal attempts, including Kierre Greenwood's 3-point try with 3 seconds to go, and UNC Asheville missed a layup, a tip-in and a free throw.
Raffa scored 20 of his 27 points in the first half for Coastal Carolina (8-9, 3-3).
