VALPARAISO, Ind. -- Ryan Broekhoff had 19 points and nine rebounds as Valparaiso defeated Green Bay 73-61 for its sixth straight victory.
Kevin Van Wijk added 12 points and Matt Kenney had 10 for the Crusaders (16-5, 6-1 Horizon), who took over sole possession of first place in the Horizon League after Wright State lost to Youngstown State on Wednesday.
Valparaiso never trailed, leading by as many as 16 points in the first half.
The Phoenix closed the gap to 38-37 early in the second half, but Van Wijk followed with a three-point play that started a 12-5 Crusaders' run. A tip-in by Jordan Fouse got Green Bay within 61-58 with 2:04 remaining, but Broekhoff hit a 3-pointer and Valparaiso hit 9 of 10 free throws in the final 1:05.
