CHICAGO -- Matt Ross scored 12 points and Chicago State defeated Utah Valley 62-54 on Saturday.
Chicago State led 35-25 at halftime and was ahead by as many as 18 points in the second half. The Cougars shot 42 percent.
Utah Valley was without top scorer Ben Aird, out with an injury. Aird averages 14 points a game.
Maryland point guard Melo Trimble, considered a lock to leave the program before struggling in the second half last season, has withdrawn from the NBA draft and will return for his junior season.
