THIBODAUX, La. -- Dantrell Thomas scored 15 points and Nicholls State held off Sam Houston State in overtime for a 70-67 win on Saturday.
Thomas, who made all seven of his free throw attempts, tied the game at 60-all on a three-point play with 22 seconds left in regulation, sending the contest into overtime.
In OT, the Colonels went on an 8-0 run that was capped by Jeremy Smith's two free throws to claim a 68-63 lead with 1:47 left. Sam Houston cut the deficit to one point on James Thomas' free throw with 45 seconds remaining.
But Nicholls State (6-12, 5-3 Southland Conference) held the Bearkats scoreless the rest of the way. Thomas made two free throws with 13 seconds left, giving the Colonels enough cushion for the victory.
DeMarcus Gatlin had 12 points for Sam Houston (11-9, 4-4).
