Ryan Nicholas had 16 points and 11 rebounds for the Pilots (8-13, 1-5).
BYU, which shot 51.7 percent (31 of 60) from the floor for the game, led 39-29 at halftime. Carlino started the second half hot, scoring 10 points and hitting two 3-pointers in the first 4:31 as the Cougars built a 53-34 cushion.
Portland got no closer than 13 the rest of the way.
Carlino, who made 10 of 17 shots, had six assists and four steals.
