HAMMOND, La. -- Roosevelt Johnson and Brandon Fortenberry scored 18 points apiece, and Johnson also grabbed 13 rebounds, as Southeastern Louisiana defeated Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 67-53 Saturday night in a Southland Conference game.
The Lions (7-11, 5-3) led by 14 points in the first half and 26-16 at halftime, but the Islanders (2-16, 1-7) rallied to take a 40-36 lead with 9:20 remaining. Johnathan Jordan scored 13 of his 24 points for Texas A&M-CC during that stretch.
Southeastern Louisiana responded with a 19-1 run, which included six points by Johnson and five by Fortenberry, to take command, 55-41 with 3:08 left.
The Lions made just 62.8 percent of their free throws (27 of 43), but they had nearly twice as many opportunities as the Islanders, who made only 50 percent (11 of 22). Johnson made 10 of 17 and Fortenberry 9 of 11 from the line.
SMU has signed a second player from Australia, 6-foot-11 forward Harry Froling, to a national letter of intent. The Mustangs previously signed guard Tom Wilson from Australia.
