BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Jordan Swing scored six of his career-high 24 points in overtime as Alabama-Birmingham rallied past Texas-El Paso 78-72 Wednesday night, snapping a six-game losing streak and posting its first Conference USA win of the season.
Swing hit the layup with 5 seconds left in regulation that tied it at 64 after the Blazers (9-12, 1-5) erased a 15-point, second-half deficit.UAB used a 22-7 run, with Swing scoring eight and Rod Rucker seven, to make it 50-50 with 6:08 remaining in regulation, but could not take the lead until Fahro Alihodzic's layup opened overtime.With the Blazers ahead 71-65, the Miners closed the gap to 71-70 on Jacques Streeter's three-point play with 2:13 remaining. Swing hit four straight free throws and Alihodzic added a layup with 20 seconds left, making it 77-72.McKenzie Moore's 18 points led UTEP (11-8, 4-2), which had won five of its previous six games.
Jordan Swing had 24 points and six steals off the bench for UAB on Wednesday night against UTEP. He joins Troy Franklin of Coppin State as the only Division I players to have at least 20 points and six steals in a game off the bench this season.
