CHARLESTON, S.C. -- Tashan Newsome scored 22 points, including a three-point play with 29.5 seconds left in overtime for the winning margin, as Gardner-Webb defeated Big South Conference leader Charleston Southern 74-73 Wednesday night.
Mathiang Muo, whose 3-pointer for Charleston Southern with 3.2 seconds left in regulation forced overtime, missed a jumper with 11 seconds left in the extra period, then missed again just before the buzzer after two deflections by the Gardner-Webb defense.
The Runnin' Bulldogs (12-10, 4-4) ended an eight-game winning streak by the Buccaneers (12-7, 7-1) and have won back-to-back Big South road games for the first time since the 2008-09 season.
