FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Sherwood Brown scored 21 points and Florida Gulf Coast rode a big second half to a 74-49 rout of South Carolina Upstate Saturday night in Atlantic Sun play.
The Eagles (18-8, 10-3), leading by six at halftime, outscored the Spartans (13-13, 7-6) 43-24 in the second half for an easy victory. They avenged a 72-71 overtime loss at SC Upstate (13-13, 7-6) on Jan. 10.
The Eagles, who led by just 33-30 early in the second half, went on a 10-2 run that included five points from Filip Cvjeticanin. Florida Gulf Coast outscored the Spartans 36-22 in the paint, and 25-10 while capitalizing on 21 SC Upstate turnovers.
Former Kentucky guard Ed Davender, the only Wildcat with at least 1,500 points and 400 assists, has died. He was 49.
Guard Naz Mitrou-Long, whose 2015-16 season ended in December due to hip problems, has been granted a hardship waiver for the coming season, Iowa State said.
As the Sooners look to life without superstar Buddy Hield and his sidekicks, it's clear their unseasoned players will need to grow up fast.
