THIBODAUX, La. -- Brandon Fortenberry scored 30 points to equal his career high and led Southeastern Louisiana to a 73-62 victory over Nicholls State Saturday in Southland Conference play.
The Lions (9-12, 7-4) raced to a 38-22 halftime lead over the Colonels (6-15, 5-6) and were never seriously threatened.
Fortenberry, who set his career high nearly two years ago to the day, made 10 of 17 shots overall from the floor. He hit 5 of 8 3-point attempts and all five of his free throws. The five treys also tied his career best.
In the second half, Nicholls State twice cut the lead to six points. But each time Fortenberry responded with a 3-pointer.
The dust has settled, players having decided whether they are headed to the NBA or back to college. Who won? Who lost? Well, Villanova is pretty happy. USC, meanwhile, not be as thrilled.
