CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. -- Marland Smith hit a school-record-tying nine 3-pointers and scored 29 points as Southeast Missouri defeated Eastern Illinois 77-64 Saturday.
Two days after becoming the school's all-time leader in 3-pointers during a win against SIU Edwardsville, Smith hit 9 of 15 shots from beyond the arc on Saturday. His ninth 3 with 2:55 remaining tied the mark and put the Redhawks (13-13, 5-7 Ohio Valley) ahead 73-57. He had one more chance to break the record, but missed a 3-pointer with 17 seconds left.
The Redhawks dominated from the outset, jumping out to an 18-2 lead en route to a 48-23 halftime advantage.
