NACOGDOCHES, Texas -- Taylor Smith had 21 points on 9-of-13 shooting, grabbed seven rebounds and Stephen F. Austin held off Oral Roberts 77-67 on Saturday night.
The Lumberjacks (20-2, 11-1 Southland) trailed 10-3 in the first 4 minutes of the game but regained the lead with an 11-3 run capped off with a fast-break lay-up by Smith with 11:49 before halftime.
The two teams traded buckets until the 3:44 mark when it was a 28-26 lead for Stephen F. Austin but when Smith hit another lay-up and Jacob Parker knocked down a big 3-pointer, the Lumberjacks were off and running, eventually taking a 38-28 halftime lead.
Parker finished with 11 points and five rebounds. Desmond Haymon chipped in with 17 points and six rebounds for Stephen F. Austin, which shot 49.1 percent from the field and was 19 of 30 from the free-throw line.
Damen Bell-Holter scored 22 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead Oral Roberts (14-10, 9-3).
