FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- Lawrence Alexander scored 20 points, including two key baskets down the stretch, as North Dakota State defeated IPFW 58-54 on Saturday.
After IPFW pulled within two points with 3:17 remaining, Alexander buried back-to-back buckets to put the Bison (19-6, 10-3 Summit) ahead 55-49 with 1:48 left. Five straight points by Luis Jacobo got the Mastadons (10-16, 3-9 Summit) within one with 32 seconds to go, but Mike Felt hit 3 of 4 free throws the rest of the way for North Dakota State to clinch it.
Marshall Bjorklund added 14 points for the Bison, who committed just five turnovers and swept the season series with IPFW.
Frank Gaines scored 16 points and Jacobo had 14 for the Mastadons, who lost their third straight game despite making 9 of 16 3-point attempts and shooting 46 percent overall.
