GREENVILLE, N.C. -- Dwayne Davis scored seven of his 23 points in overtime to help Southern Mississippi reach 20 wins for the fourth consecutive season by defeating East Carolina 86-82 Saturday night.
A jumper by Davis put the Golden Eagles (20-6, 9-2 Conference USA) ahead 80-79 with 1:45 remaining in overtime. He added two free throws on Southern Mississippi's next possession and made 1 of 2 with 15 seconds left after the Pirates (14-10, 5-6) closed it to 83-82 on Robert Sampson's 3-pointer.
Davis' two free throws tied the game at 71 with 28 seconds left in regulation, and it went to overtime when East Carolina's Marshall Guilmette missed a jumper with 3 seconds left.
