LEXINGTON, Va. -- John Brown scored 21 points as High Point rallied past Virginia Military Institute 78-67 Tuesday night to win its seventh straight game and claim sole possession of its first Big South Conference North Division title.
The Panthers (16-10, 11-3), who swept the season series for the first time since 2007-08, trailed 24-11 at the 4:44 mark. A 40-14 run spanning both halves catapulted High Point ahead, with the Panthers shooting 69.2 percent (18 of 26) in the second half.
After the Keydets clawed back to 66-60 with 3:36 left, High Point answered with a 10-2 run to put the game away.
The second annual Gavitt Tipoff Games, eight games between members of the Big East and Big Ten to be played Nov. 14-18, will feature Villanova at Purdue in the opener.
