JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Keith McDougald scored 21 points and converted a go-ahead layup with 12 seconds left to lift Jacksonville over South Carolina-Upstate 68-64 Thursday night in Atlantic Sun Conference play.
Jacksonville shot 50 percent (12 of 24) in the opening frame, compared to 23 percent (7 of 30) for South Carolina-Upstate (14-15, 8-8), but fell to 37 percent (14 of 37) in the second half as the Spartans rallied to tie it 54-54 with 44 seconds left.
But McDougald converted his layup after a Jacksonville timeout and Haywood stole the ball from Adrian Rodgers on the Spartans' ensuing possession to seal it.
Ty Greene paced South Carolina-Upstate with 14 points but the Spartans went just 4-of-17 shooting from deep.
