EMMITSBURG, Md. -- Julian Norfleet scored 25 points to lead Mount St. Mary's to its sixth straight home win, beating St. Francis Brooklyn 72-65 Saturday.
Mount St. Mary's had pulled ahead by 12, 53-41, on Norfleet's jumper 7 minutes into the second half. St. Francis (11-16, 7-9), however, clawed back to within 62-59 on a Mockford 3-pointer with 3:34 remaining.
Norfleet answered with two free throws and St. Francis Brooklyn did not score again until Mockford's three free throws at the 18-second mark. By then, the Mountaineers had built a commanding 70-60 lead.
Mount St. Mary's made 23 of 30 free throws, compared to 10 of 14 for St. Francis Brooklyn, and scored 17 points off 15 turnovers.
The dust has settled, players having decided whether they are headed to the NBA or back to college. Who won? Who lost? Well, Villanova is pretty happy. USC, meanwhile, not be as thrilled.
