FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Kyle Vinales scored 28 points and Joe Efese came off the bench to record a rarity Saturday as Central Connecticut State defeated Sacred Heart 80-72.
Efese scored a career-high 21 points off the bench and blocked eight shots. The last player to have at least 20 points and eight blocks off the bench in a Division I game was Kenny George of UNC Asheville on Nov. 17, 2007.In a close game throughout, CCSU (11-15, 7-8 Northeast Conference) led 37-35 at halftime, then outscored Pioneers (9-17, 7-8) 43-37.Vinales' 28 points (21 in the second half) came on 8-of-20 shooting, including three 3-pointers. He was 9 for 9 at the foul line. Matt Hunter had a 10-point, 11-rebound double-double. Brandon Peel added 15 points.Steve Glowiak led the Pioneers with 21 points.
