CONWAY, S.C. -- Anthony Raffa scored 18 points to help Coastal Carolina thump Winthrop 73-54 Wednesday night.
Warren Gillis and Kierre Greenwod tallied 16 points apiece for Coastal Carolina. Gillis also posted 10 rebounds to help the Chanticleers collect a 45-29 rebounding edge.
Coastal Carolina forced Winthrop (12-16, 5-10) into four turnovers over the first 5 minutes en route to a 9-1 lead. Winthrop closed the gap to four, 12-8, but Coastal Carolina responded with a 12-2 run to pull away.
The Chanticleers (14-13, 9-6), who fell to Winthrop 61-48 on Jan. 30, led 41-24 at halftime and stretched that advantage to as many as 22, 61-39, in the second half.
Coastal Carolina, which entered ranked second in the Big South Conference in steals per game with 8.8, managed nine in the win.
Joab Jerome scored 16 for Winthrop, which converted just 4 of 20 3-pointerss and 12 of 22 free throws.
