EL PASO, Texas -- John Bohannon had 24 points, 17 rebounds and four blocked shots as UTEP defeated Houston 63-53 Wednesday night.
Bohannon hit 8 of 14 field goals and was 8 for 10 at the free-throw line for the Miners (15-12, 8-5 Conference USA). Cedrick Lang added 10 points and 10 rebounds.
The Cougars shot better than the Miners from the field (38 percent to 35 percent) and the 3-point line (4 for 11 compared to 4 for 21). But Houston committed 17 turnovers and was outrebounded 40-31.
UTEP was on top 25-12 in the early going en route to a 36-25 halftime lead. Houston got within 43-41 with 7:08 remaining before the Miners closed the game on a 20-12 run.
