LAKE CHARLES, La. -- Dontae Cannon scored 15 of his 19 points in the second half as McNeese State rallied late in the second half to beat Oral Roberts 56-54 in a Southland Conference game Thursday night.
Oral Roberts led 47-36 with 8:03 remaining, but a jumper by Cannon started a 20-7 run by the Cowboys (12-14, 6-9) over the final 6:54.
With the game tied 54-54, Cannon hit two free throws with 16 seconds to play and Brandon Regis knocked away a pass by the Golden Eagles (17-12, 12-4) with 2.1 seconds left.
The victory was the third straight in conference play for the Cowboys.
McNeese hit 54.2 percent (13 of 24) from the field in the second half after making 37.9 percent (11 of 29) in the first.
Former Kentucky guard Ed Davender, the only Wildcat with at least 1,500 points and 400 assists, has died. He was 49.
Guard Naz Mitrou-Long, whose 2015-16 season ended in December due to hip problems, has been granted a hardship waiver for the coming season, Iowa State said.
As the Sooners look to life without superstar Buddy Hield and his sidekicks, it's clear their unseasoned players will need to grow up fast.
