INDIANAPOLIS -- Thomas Staton scored 14 points and UMKC secured the No. 6 seed in the Summit League tournament after closing out the regular season with a 48-44 victory over IUPUI on Saturday.
The Kangaroos (8-23, 5-11 Summit), who snapped a four-game losing streak, will face No. 3 seed North Dakota State in the first round on March 10 in Sioux Falls, S.D.
IUPUI (6-25, 1-15 Summit), as the No. 8 seed, will face top-seeded South Dakota State on March 9.
UMKC entered the day a game behind South Dakota in the Summit League standings but moved up in seeding after the Coyotes lost to Western Illinois. UMKC holds the tiebreaker after sweeping South Dakota this season.
