BOCA RATON, Fla. -- Stefan Moody scored 28 points and Andre Mattison added a double-double to lift Florida Atlantic over Florida International 77-61 Saturday night in the Sun Belt Conference season finale for both teams.
Greg Gantt scored 16 and Mattison had 14 points and a game-high 10 boards to help FAU (14-17, 9-11) outrebound FIU 44-28.
Down 31-30 at halftime, FAU opened the second half on a 20-5 run, capped by Chris Bryant's layup, to take a 50-36 lead with 13:57 remaining.
Malik Smith's 3-pointer with 12:04 left brought the Panthers within 50-43, but the Owls, behind Gantt's layup, pushed the lead to 56-45 with just under 10 minutes to go. FAU held a double-digit lead for majority of the final 10 minutes.
FAU shot 69.2 percent (18 of 26) in the second half compared to FIU's 33.3 percent (9 of 27).
Smith led the Panthers (16-13, 11-9) with 18 points.
