PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas -- Malcolm Miller had 12 points and nine rebounds and Southern University defeated Prairie View A&M 61-39 on Saturday.
Javan Mitchell, Jameel Grace and Derick Beltran scored 10 points apiece for the Jaguars (21-9, 15-3 SWAC). Southern will be the top seed for the SWAC tournament beginning March 13 in Garland, Texas, as the other two top regular-season teams, Texas Southern and Arkansas-Pine Bluff, are ineligible for the title.
Jourdan DeMuynck led the Panthers (13-18, 8-10) with 18 points -- all but two in the first half -- and tied for the team lead with eight rebounds.
Prairie View raced to an 11-4 lead as DeMuynck hit three early 3-pointers. Southern finished the half on a 15-3 run to lead 30-20 at the break.
