MVP: Thanks to a grinding defensive battle, no one truly stands out in the box score, but Baye Keita -- a 48 percent free throw shooter on the season -- went 7-of-7 from the line, including big shots down the stretch (he had 13 points and eight rebounds, six of them offensive) to help Syracuse pull out the win.
X factor: In their previous two meetings, Georgetown forward Otto Porter sliced the the 2-3 Orange zone from every position on the floor, particularly the mid-post and top of the key. On Friday, Syracuse focused a disproportionate amount of their defensive energy on Porter, and held him to just 4-of-13 from the field.
That was the end of an era. More than any other rivalry, Georgetown-Syracuse has defined Big East Conference basketball. That is gone now, and the time for lament is here. But we can't say the series -- and this league -- isn't going out with a bang.
