LOGAN, Utah -- Jarred Shaw scored 24 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead Utah State to a 90-57 drubbing of Southern Utah on Tuesday night.
USU burst out to a quick lead behind 13 first-half points from Shaw. Five consecutive points by reserve JoJo McGlaston gave the Aggies a 26-15 edge with 11:05 to play. Moments later, Butterfield nailed a 3-point shot as the result of an in-bounds play to give USU its first 20-plus-point lead of the game 36-15.
USU led 46-26 at halftime.
The Aggies had 32 points in the paint while SUU had 10. A combined 43 fouls were called in the game.
USU head coach Stew Morrill has won 28 in a row at home against in-state teams.
Maryland point guard Melo Trimble, considered a lock to leave the program before struggling in the second half last season, has withdrawn from the NBA draft and will return for his junior season.
Louisville's Chinanu Onuaku, who recently underwent a medical procedure to correct a heart rhythm issue detected during the combine, will keep his name in the NBA draft pool.
Andrew White III will return to the Nebraska men's basketball team next season after removing his name from the NBA draft.
