CLINTON, S.C. -- Naji Hibbert scored 18 points as Gardner-Webb staved off a late charge to beat Presbyterian 67-58 on Saturday.
The Runnin' Bulldogs (9-10, 2-2 Big South) extended a second half lead to 15 with 8:42 left, but Presbyterian (4-15, 0-4) cut it to two points with 3:01 to go. Gardner-Webb responded with a Jerome Hill layup and a Hibbert 3-pointer on consecutive possessions to quell the threat.
Gardner-Webb was down five with 5:08 left in the first, but scored the next 11 points en route to a two-point advantage at the break at 30-28.
Maryland point guard Melo Trimble, considered a lock to leave the program before struggling in the second half last season, has withdrawn from the NBA draft and will return for his junior season.
Louisville's Chinanu Onuaku, who recently underwent a medical procedure to correct a heart rhythm issue detected during the combine, will keep his name in the NBA draft pool.
Andrew White III will return to the Nebraska men's basketball team next season after removing his name from the NBA draft.
