DAYTON, Ohio -- Devin Oliver scored 16 points as Dayton pulled away in the final minutes to beat St. Francis University (Pa.) 70-56 on Wednesday night.
Oliver was 5-of-10 from the floor and had 12 rebounds and three steals for the Flyers (2-0). Dyshawn Pierre and Khari Price had 14 points each. Pierre was also 4-of-4 in free throws and had 10 rebounds. Jordan Sibert came in from the bench to score 12 points and hit five of six free throws.
The Flyers took an early lead and held it for most of the game and led 33-28 at the end of the first half. They won it on a 16-2 run with four minutes left in the game after St Francis had tied it at 54-54.
Purdue coach Matt Painter says players haven't used the fifth-year graduate transfer rule for its true intent.
The 2017 recruiting class is short on point guards, with Trevon Duval leading only eight prospects from the ESPN 60 who are still available.
The dust has settled after players made their NBA draft decisions. Which college teams won? Which lost? Well, Villanova is pretty happy. USC, meanwhile, might not be as thrilled.
