HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. -- Zeke Upshaw scored 22 points and Stephen Nwaukoni added 12 with 12 rebounds as Hofstra edged Central Connecticut State 72-67 Sunday.
Hofstra (3-6) took a late lead on consecutive layups by Moussa Kone and Jordan Allen, but CCSU responded as Juwan Newmen hit two free throws to make the score 66-65 with 28 seconds left.
Upshaw hit two from the line and Jamall Robinson added another two free throws following a Newmen turnover. Malcom McMillan made a layup to pull the Blue Devils (3-7) within three with eight seconds remaining, but couldn't connect on a 3-pointer following an Upshaw free throw.
Four of the seven players that saw action for Hofstra scored in double figures, as Kone and Robinson each had 13.
Faronte Drakeford scored 23 points and Kyle Vinales had 21 for CCSU, but both fouled out in the final minutes.
