JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Calvin Godfrey scored 25 points with 12 rebounds and four blocked shots to lead Southern University past North Florida 87-78 on Saturday night.
Yondarius Johnson added 21 points -- with 4-of-4 3-point shooting -- and Damien Goodwin added 13 for the Jaguars (1-4) who broke open a tight game in the second half.
North Florida (1-3) was within three points with 15:15 to play until Southern broke away with a 12-1 run in a little more than 2 minutes after a TV timeout. Godfrey sparked the run with a layup and a jumper and Johnson added a pair of 3-pointers.
North Florida hit just 20 of 35 free throws but clawed back to within four when Chris Davenport went off for a layup and a dunk, Devin Wilson dropped a 3-pointer and Charles McRoy made a layup. McRoy and Dallas Moore led the Ospreys with 14 points each.
