HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. -- Jordan Jackson scored his team's first 11 points after halftime and Travis White hit a pair of clutch 3-pointers as Northern Kentucky surged past Jacksonville 73-66 Saturday night.
Jackson scored a career-high 28 points as he single-handedly kept the Norse (6-9, 2-1 Atlantic Sun) within striking distance as Jacksonville tried to break open a one-point game after halftime. The Dolphins (5-9, 1-2) led by as many as seven in the second half.
Jackson hit four straight, forging a 45-45 tie. White hit his first 3-pointer with 3:39 left, pulling the Norse to 63-61. Jackson sank a pair of free throws for the tie, 63-63, and White drilled his second and final 3 to put Northern Kentucky ahead for good 66-63.
Jacksonville's R.J. Slawson blocked three shots in the final 5:28, twice rejecting Jackson, and made a put-back dunk to get within 66-65. Jarvis Haywood led Jacksonville with 19 points.
Maryland point guard Melo Trimble, considered a lock to leave the program before struggling in the second half last season, has withdrawn from the NBA draft and will return for his junior season.
Louisville's Chinanu Onuaku, who recently underwent a medical procedure to correct a heart rhythm issue detected during the combine, will keep his name in the NBA draft pool.
Andrew White III will return to the Nebraska men's basketball team next season after removing his name from the NBA draft.
