BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Chad Frazier scored 18 points Saturday and CJ Washington added 17 and grabbed 10 rebounds as UAB beat Division II Newberry 96-75.
Ranked first in rebounds with 48.4 per game, UAB (11-3) outrebounded Newberry (8-3) 50-23 and shot 47.9 percent from the field to 40 percent.
The lead changed hands six times in the first half until a 3-pointer by Frazier put UAB ahead 26-19. The Blazers capitalized on nine steals and 12 forced turnovers, and pulled away to a 52-41 halftime lead.
Newberry opened the second half with a 7-2 run, but Frazier hit back-to-back 3-pointers, sparking a 10-2 run and UAB finished strong.
