CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Shawn Lester scored 24 points and pulled down 11 rebounds as Charlotte held off Florida Atlantic in a 62-53 win Thursday.
Charlotte (13-7, 4-3 Conference USA) pulled away in the last 2 minutes of the game, finishing the contest on an 8-1 run. The 49ers went 8 for 8 from the free throw line over the last 1:24 to preserve the win while Florida Atlantic missed its last six field goal attempts of the game.
The Owls (7-14, 2-4) had a chance to come within two points with a minute remaining after a Jackson Trapp steal. But Trapp missed a layup after the steal and then fouled Pierria Henry, who made both free throws as Charlotte extended its lead.
Willie Clayton scored 13 points for the 49ers while Henry added nine points, eight rebounds and seven assists.
