NEWARK, N.J. -- Damon Lynn scored eight of his 21 points in overtime and hit four free throws in the final 17 seconds of the extra session as NJIT held off Lafayette for a 91-88 win Saturday.
With 1:05 remaining in overtime, Lynn hit his fifth and final 3-point shot to push the Highlanders' (4-2) lead to 86-83. Bryce Scott hit a pair of free throws with :18 left to pull Lafayette (0-4) within two and the Leopards immediately fouled Lynn, who hit a pair from the stripe to make the score 89-85. Scott and Seth Hinrichs missed 3-point shots and Lynn, after securing his fourth rebound of the overtime, hit two more free throws and NJIT led 91-86 with 5 seconds to play.
Scott hit a 3-pointer with :07 left in regulation to send the game into overtime.
Terrence Smith scored a career-high 24 points, on 10-of-15 shooting, for NJIT.
